Time Inc. Test Kitchen Director to Serve as Final Table Judge

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (October 5, 2016) – The World Food Championships revealed today the last Final Table Judge for the 5th Anniversary in Orange Beach, Alabama. As the Test Kitchen Director for Time Inc. Food Studios, Katie Barreira has sampled quite a few recipes in her career, but this November she’ll taste recipes like never before as she steps up to the plate during Food Sport’s biggest moment.

As a Test Kitchen Director, Barreira’s job consists of testing and tasting recipe development for dozens of publications. Some of the publications she samples for include Real Simple, Southern Living, and Sunset.

“I can’t think of a more fitting judge for the Final Table. As a Test Kitchen Director, Katie is hand-picking the best recipes every day,” commented Mike McCloud, CEO of World Food Championships. “We believe she is going to be one of our toughest critics at the Final Table this year, and we can’t wait for her to join us at the World Food Championships this November.”

“It’s a lot of pressure picking out a $100,000 dish, but I’m excited for the challenge!” described Barreira. “I’m excited to be around the passion of 400+ teams and experience the culinary ideation and intensity they bring to the World Food Championships.”

Barreira has worked her way up the food chain as the Test Kitchen Director for Time Inc. Food Studios since her graduation from the Institute of Culinary Education in 2007. Barreira started out as the Test Kitchen Associate for “Every Day with Rachael Ray” in 2007, where she furthered her career as the Food Editor for the magazine. In 2015, Barreira moved south to Birmingham, AL to serve as the Test Kitchen Director for Cooking Light, which is also owned by Time Inc.

Joining Barreira at the Final Table are celebrated TV chefs Vic Vegas and Robyn Almodovar, veteran Alabama pitmaster and executive chef of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Que, Chris Lilly, and professional athlete turned foodie, Bob Baumhower.
