HEAD COOK: Scot Loranc

COMPETITION: Bacon World Championship

George Scot Loranc is a native Texan from west Texas. He moved to Austin in 1991 and began his culinary career at Chez Fred. Out of necessity he was thrown into the fire when all of the line cooks walked out during their shift. Agreeing to help out for the interim he found his passion and his new career. He managed his first kitchen at 21. He quickly decided to pursue a degree from the Culinary Institute of America in New York. After he graduated he formed a boutique catering company called Epicurious George. He catered for Manhattan’s elite. He also worked with Abigail Kircsch the third largest US caterer in the country. Soon after the birth of their son the Loranc’s were ready to head back to Texas. Scot worked in some of Austin’s iconic businesses. Central Market as the Seafood Manager and a cooking school instructor, in which he worked with some of the world’s best chefs. He became the Executive Chef/ GM of Quality Seafood which is an Austin tradition. While he was there he tied for best seafood restaurant for 2 years in a row. The desire to move to the hill country and a great opportunity to head up another Texas icon at Hays City Store has brought him out to the hill country earlier than expected.
