HEAD COOK: Greg Buerger

COMPETITION: World Dessert Championship

I am a home cook who began entering Arizona State Fair cooking competitions about a decade ago. It soon became an annual tradition, with family members vying against each other for ribbons, aprons, and bragging rights. Our family competitions continued as we began competing at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas with my wife, two daughters and my sister-in-law all competing each year. While most of my local wins were modest, some sponsors had national awards. I won the 2014 Kikkoman Grill Master Challenge at the Arizona State Fair where I took the 1st place $1,000 prize and recently took 1st place and $1,000 at the Riunite Ultimate Chile Challenge here in Phoenix. I placed 16th in the World Recipe Championships at the 2015 WFC and 4th in the World Dessert Championships at the 2016 WFC and finished 2nd in the 2017 World Dessert Championship. My persistence has paid off as I hit the jackpot in Orange Beach with 1st place in the 2018 World Dessert Championship. I finished 3rd in the 2019 World Dessert Championship. I've been blessed with a great culinary team to support me as we "Double Down" one more time.
