WFC Announces Official 2016 Dates

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 8, 2016) – The World Food Championships has announced the official dates for the 2016 championship event, which will mark the fifth anniversary for the largest Food Sport event in the world.

Opening rounds of the 2016 WFC will occur November 9-11, while the category Top 10 finals will occur on November 12-13. Elite cooking teams, pro chefs and seasoned home cooks from across the globe will compete in nine iconic categories – Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chili, Dessert, Recipe, Seafood, Sandwich, Steak  – to determine World Champions in each.

Those nine champions will face off against each other in WFC’s ultimate food fight, The Final Table, on Tuesday, November 15. The winner takes home a $100,000 grand prize and is named the 2016 World Food Champion.

Barbecue competitor Loren Hill from Overland Park, Kansas, emerged from Kenmore Kitchen Arena as the 2015 World Food Champion, beating the field of more than 1,100 competitors who took part in the overall event.

WFC officials also announced expanded on-site registration for 2016, making it more convenient for teams and judges to arrive closer to their actual competition times. On-site registration will now be open between 9 am and 5 pm, starting Tuesday, November 8 through Friday, November 11. All teams and judges must be registered 24 hours before their official cooks’ or judges’ meetings.

The 2016 location/venue for the World Food Championships has not been announced yet because of ongoing negotiations and venue assessments. It is the goal of WFC to choose a venue in 2016 where all competitions, including Barbecue, can be located in the same general area.

“After a lot of conversations with WFC contestants and fans, as well as sponsors and partners, we believe it’s time to bring all of the action and competitions together,” said Mike McCloud, CEO of World Food Championships. “In the previous four championships, we simply didn’t have the venue options to do this. Now we do, and we’re very confident that we can finally bring it all together in 2016. In fact, we expect to be making a big announcement about it in just a few weeks.”

Next up on the WFC season calendar will be the release of the revised 2016 WFC rules on January 22, and the most complete information can always be found at www.worldfoodchampionships.com.
