World Food Championships Links With Philippines for 2016

The Philippines is the newest International Qualifier for the World Food Championships, thanks to a new partnership between Philippine Food Exchange and MMA Creative, the parent company of the World Food Championships.

The agreement establishes the Philippine Food Championships, which will be the exclusive pathway for Filipinos to the WFC for the 2016 World Food Championships. The Philippine Food Championships will produce up to three chefs representing the Island Nation to compete at the World event in Kissimmee, Fla., Nov. The Philippine Food Championships will offer aspiring chefs and home cooks a chance to compete for cash, bragging rights and the “Golden Tickets” that will cover travel expenses and entry fees into the 2016 WFC.

Mike McCloud, CEO of WFC, said the agreement builds in size and scope in upcoming years.

“Team Philippines will start with up to three highly qualified and tested chefs in 2016,” he explained. “Each successive year, the team delegation from the Philippines will increase to include representation into all of our categories or into a new category that we are considering for international teams."

As the exclusive pathway to WFC, the Philippine Food Championships will allow chefs, home cooks and foodies of all backgrounds, provided they are Filipino citizens, to cross swords on the local level and then a chance to compete on the global stage thanks to WFC “Golden Tickets”.

Verna Payawal, speaking for the Philippine Food Championships, announced that the International Qualifier will take place in Makati at the Century City Mall, one of the premiere centers in the heart of the Philippines’ Business District in March of 2016.

“We are very excited about joining the Philippine Food Championships with the World Food Championships,” said Ge Penales, co-organizer of the Philippine event. “We are quite confident that our champions will do well on the world stage in Florida this year just as Neneth Madrona, the first Filipino qualifier to WFC, carried our flag with pride in the 2013 and 2014 competitions. The Filipino contingent will bring our special flavors and recipes to the categories of FRESH and Seafood in which they will compete.”

Philippine Food Championships organizers and McCloud agree that the partnership is expected to be a long-term one with plans to increase in complexity and significance each year.

“The international flavors and traditions for creating food strengthens the level of competition for all of the food athletes in our event,” McCloud said. “It creates a source of surprise and intrigue that can only be achieved as world competitors face off in our unique challenges.”
