Chevron Game Day Chef Challenge Scores with World Food Championships

The world of Food Sport just scored a touchdown thanks to a new relationship between Chevron’s Game Day Chef Challenge and the World Food Championships.

Launched last year across the West Coast, the Chevron Game Day Chef Challenge invites football fans and foodies to come up with their best game day dish that incorporates one or more ingredients purchased from a Chevron or Texaco station. The 2014 competition held five regional cook-offs before crowning its champion and awarding $25,000 in Chevron gift cards at the Rose Bowl Stadium on January 1. As it turns out, the winner was a very familiar face to WFC contestants, because it was 2013 World Sandwich Champion Jennifer Daskevich. She had to beat out stiff competition throughout the regionals, including 2014 World Pasta Champion Suzanne Clark, who placed third at the final.

With last year’s Game Day Chef Challenge, Chevron caught the attention of the World Food Championships. This year, the Challenge will be a qualifying event for the 2016 World Food Championships.  In addition to all the great prizes of the Challenge, regional winners will receive a Golden Ticket from the World Food Championships to compete at the 2016 competition in Kissimmee, Florida.

"We were impressed with the creative spin that Chevron brought to food sport," commented Mike McCloud, CEO of World Food Championships. "The contestants proved that you can make an award worthy dish using ingredients from a Chevron or Texaco station. So it simply made sense that we would make the Chevron Game Day Chef Challenge a qualifying event as the creative possibilities are endless."

In 2015, the Game Day Chef Challenge will be open to residents of sixteen states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.  The winners of each regional cook-off will receive an invitation to compete in the Game Day Chef Challenge Grand Finale for an opportunity to win $25,000 in Chevron gift cards.

“We are excited to have the Game Day Chef Challenge become a qualifying event for the World Food Championships,” says Don Walker, General Manager, Brand, Chevron. “By aligning our cooking competition with the premier event in Food Sport, and providing our Regional Winners with the opportunity to compete at the highest level, Chevron is furthering our commitment to servicing our valued customers. Plus, it demonstrates the variety of products available at Chevron and Texaco convenience stores.”
